CBS All Access’ ‘The Stand’ Adds Alexander Skarsgård as Randall Flagg
CBS All Access has found their Walkin’ Dude for the upcoming reboot of Stephen King’s The Stand. The jean-jacket wearing Randall Flagg will be played by actor Alexander Skarsgård. On Wednesday ABC’s The View hosted author Stephen King to promote his new book, The Institute, and It: Chapter Two. While there he also announced four additional cast members for the reboot series of The Stand.
This included Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers) as Larry Underwood, Owen Teague (Bloodline) as Harold Lauder, Brad William Henke (Orange Is the New Black) as Tom Cullen, and Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me) as Cobb. But he conveniently left out the character of Flagg. After Collider decided to dig a little deeper, they uncovered the hidden casting news Wednesday afternoon.

New Direction
The new members of the cast will join those already attached. James Marsden will play Stu Redman, with Amber Heard as Nadine Cross. Odessa Young has also been cast as Frannie Goldsmith, Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, and Henry Zaga as Nick Andros. The 10-episode new adaptation of King’s novel is expected to begin production this fall.
The story follows a group of survivors as they are caught in a battle between good and evil. After a flu devastates the U.S. population, new communities are created. Mother Abagail leads a new safe zone, until it is threatened by another community ran by the evil Flagg.
The limited series was written by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and Ben Cavell (SEAL Team). However, the series will feature a final episode written by Stephen King. The finale will include a new “coda” to the story that wasn’t a part of his original 1978 novel. The new conclusion is said to effect the story before, during, and after Captain Tripps. Which is the super flu that kills off all but 1% of the planet’s population.
The Stand is scheduled to wrap production in March and will debut on CBS All Access sometime in 2020. Do you think Alexander Skarsgård is a good choice for Randall Flagg? Leave a comment below and let us know! Be sure to follow ScaryNerd for more of all things horror!
