Oscar-nominated actress Adriana Barraza (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels) is ready to head back into horror. Deadline has announced that Barraza has been cast in the next slate of the horror anthology film series Welcome To The Blumhouse at Amazon Studios. The feature titled Bingo will be directed and co-written by Gigi Saul Guerrero who directed “Into the Dark: Culture Shock” for Blumhouse and Amazon.
The collaboration will give viewers a “Latinx-driven” horror story that brings together two generations of Hispanic artists. Apart from directing Guerrero also co-wrote the film with Shane McKenzie and Perry Blackshear.
Blumhouse and Prime Video first launched the Welcome to the Blumhouse banner last October to millions of streamers who were stuck at home due to the pandemic. The first titles included Black Box, The Lie, Evil Eye and Nocturne. The new titles coming to the anthology’s 2021 slate will also include The Manor, Black as Night, and Madres.

Bingo is set in “the barrio of Oak Springs, and follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Adriana Barraza plays the leader of the pack, Lupita, a ‘chingona’ (aka bad ass) who grew up in the neighborhood formerly filled with crime and dangerous characters. Lupita has dedicated her life to cleaning up the neighborhood and creating a community the residents could be proud to call home. Little does Lupita and her friends know, their beloved bingo hall (hence the title) is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.”
