Netflix Unleashes 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Trailer: See Leatherface, the Return of Sally and More

Netflix revealed the full trailer for the latest installment of Texas Chainsaw Massacre which will hit the platform on February 18, 2022. A group of (probably) horny real estate investors scour Texas for the last piece of cheap real estate, in hopes of gentrifying another small town. Their party bus just happens upon Harlow, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seemingly deserted. The new installment was directed by David Blue Garcia and written by Chris Thomas Devlin.

For one reason or another a pair of the group decides you can just walk into people’s houses and pisses off Leatherface (Mark Burnham) in the process. Naturally, all hell breaks loose and Leatherface has to stand his ground and defend his home from these invaders, at the risk of being cancelled.

Enter Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), whose dedication at revenge surpasses even that of Laurie Strode’s. Sally has spent the better part of 50 years waiting to exact revenge on the masked murderer she narrowly escaped all those years ago. Now that Leatherface has started to kill again, it’s time for Sally to put her plan into action. We see Leatherface split some dude in half, a woman crashes an old truck in a field, and Leatherface updates his face-book.

The official synopsis reads: After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.

But being that this is a Fede Alvarez film, the film is based on a story he created with Rodo Sayagues and he also produced the film, we can assume he’s pretty heavily involved. Right from the start you get the same feel from the film you get from Alvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead, which he wrote and directed. With dustbowl era brown sepia tones in the look of the film, you get the perfect mix of the old Texas Chainsaw Massacre and an Alvarez film. What does excite me about this film is the sheer gore of the kills we see in the trailer alone.

Does this film seem to be a cliché amalgamation of these long awaited sequels that we’ve been seeing now? Of course it does, does that mean it won’t be enjoyable? Hell no! Here’s the thing, there will be plenty of reasons to hate on this film and there are those out there already doing it. But you have to remember what this film is, a bridge between the film from the 70s and today.

So, the filmmakers needed to find a way to incorporate today’s technology, people and overall practicality with the simple nature of the original. After all, the original film was a very simple setup, with it’s core filled with blood and gore. It was a simple film that scared people of its’ time due to the fact that this was so simple it could happen to anyone. I think that’s the hurdle the filmmakers are up against and at heart this film looks to deliver on that at least.

Will I be watching this Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Of course, and hopefully I will enjoy this film for the simple goriness and interesting kills. If you’re looking for a strong story with emotional depth and character development, maybe not look here. However, if you like blood, guts and gore and want to see them spilled out on the town of Harlow look no further.
