“Clarice”: ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Series Adds New Faces to Cast
We first told you about the upcoming CBS TV series Clarice a few months ago. The series will follow Agent Clarice Starling from Silence of the Lambs and her journey following the events of the film. Now production on the series is starting to move forward and adding a few new faces.
Source for Deadline confirm that Marnee Carpenter (Criminal Minds, Good Girls) will co-star as a series lead, opposite, already confirmed star Rebecca Breeds’ as Clarice. Carpenter will play Catherine Martin, the last victim of Buffalo Bill’s murderous basement, who was saved by Clarice.
CBS TV also added Jayne Atkinson (Criminal Minds), Shawn Doyle (The Expanse), and Tim Guinee (Homeland) as guest roles. “Atkinson portrays Ruth Martin, the newly appointed attorney general and Catherine’s mother. Doyle plays Clarice’s therapist at Quantico, and Guinee plays Novak, the leader of a secessionist militia group.”
Besides Breeds, other actors who were already attached include Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Nick Sandow (“Orange is the New Black“) and Michael Cudlitz (“The Walking Dead“). The series takes place in 1993, just a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. “Clarice” is described as a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling. Viewers will follow as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington.
Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet co-wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producers on the series, with Elizabeth Klaviter as showrunner. The series comes from the collaboration with MGM Television and CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout. The series is currently slated for a midseason 2020-21 premiere.
