Midsummer Scream to Celebrate 50 Years of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Attraction
Fans of Disneyland’s The Haunted Mansion ride will want to stop by the Long Beach Convention Center next weekend for a celebration like no other! Midsummer Scream, a Halloween and horror convention deemed the “gateway to Halloween season”, will commemorate the famed attraction. Celebrating 50 years of the most well known haunted house in the world. All the grim, grinning, ghosts will come out to socialize for guest panels of Disney Imagineers, costume contest and a screening of The Haunted Mansion.
Have you ever wanted to pick the brain of a Disney Imagineer? How about design questions about the decor of New Orleans Square? A panel discussion will include Imagineer Tony Baxter, Bob Gurr, Designer Tania Norris and Producer Don Hahn. Tony Baxter is responsible for such Disneyland rides as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain. Bob Gurr is the designer of the Doombuggy, as well as a number of other attractions. Including Autopia, Disneyland’s Monorail, Submarine Voyage and the pirate ship of the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Tania Norris started with WED (now Disney Imagineering) when it only consisted of 30 people. Norris is responsible for many of the design choices in and around The Haunted Mansion. Don Hahn has produced such memorable Disney classics such as Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, A Nightmare Before Christmas and The Haunted Mansion.
Grim Grinning Gala
Join vendors on the show floor in the Corridor of Creepy Creeps selling Mansion-inspired merchandise. Saturday night’s party, the Grim Grinning Gala, promises to be the swingingest wake anywhere for both the living and the disembodied! Happy Haunts that materialize in costume Saturday night are invited to participate in the Grim Grinning Gala’s contest with a $500 prize being awarded to the ghost with the most creativity! Finally there will be a special screening of The Haunted Mansion with the film’s Director Rob Minkoff and Producer Don Hahn.
Aside from the Haunted Mansion celebration there will be something of interest for the whole family. Including a children’s area, interactive haunted experiences, celebrities and live podcasts.
