‘The Midnight Club’ in Development at Netflix with ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ Team
Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, the creative team behind “The Haunting of Bly Manor” will take on the Christopher Pike novel The Midnight Club for Netflix, Variety exclusively learned from sources.
Originally published in 1994, The Midnight Club, takes place at a hospice for terminally ill teenagers. A group of patients begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave. Variety’s sources also state that the series would incorporate more of Pike’s novels.
Pike is best known for his 80s and 90s teen horror fiction. Some of his other works include a vampire tale, The Thirst, and Chain Letter about the effect a mysterious letter has on a group of friends who committed a crime together. His book Fall into Darkness was also previously adapted into a TV movie in 1996.
Mike Flanagan responded to the news via Twitter: “I began brainstorming an adaptation of The Midnight Club as a teenager, so this is a dream come true. It’s an honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike.”
“The Haunting of Bly Manor” is the second season in “The Haunting” Series following “The Haunting of Hill House.” Which is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2020. Flanagan is currently developing the upcoming series “Midnight Mass” also at Netflix. However, production was shutdown due to the recent pandemic.
